Fall is my favorite time of year. The leaves are changing into bursts of reds and oranges, the air smells fresh and crisp, and the markets are calling my name with bushels of shiny apples, golden pumpkins, winter squash, and earthy mushrooms. ‘Tis the season for hearty roasts, steamy soups, and kitchens that smell of baking bread.
In celebration of the harvest season, I’ve put together some of my favorite items to help you get cozy as the weather turns chilly, and to get you ready for all the holiday cooking and entertaining on the horizon:
- CHEFS Catalog: Le Creuset 5.5-Quart Round French Oven
- Harry and David: Harvest to Holidays Gift Basket
- The Spoon Sisters: Split Decision Pie Pan
- Stony Brook Wholehearted Foods: Butternut Squash Seed Oil and Pumpkin Seed Oil (1 bottle of each)
- Scharffen Berger: Chocolate Baking Gift Set
- Sur La Table: $25 Gift Card
- Lick My Spoon: New T-Shirt!!!
Nothing quite says classy cozy like a slow-cooked, one pot meal made in your brand new Le Creuset French Oven. This 5 ½ quart enameled cast iron beauty is the cookware equivalent of a Chanel suit – a timeless piece possessing both form and function that channels your chic, confidant self. Coq au vin, mon cheri?
Some of you may remember reading about last month’s lovely trip to Harry & David, where I gained a whole new respect for the art of cultivating the perfect pear. This season, Harry & David has partnered with Martha Stewart Living to bring us the Harvest to Holidays Gift Basket (I know, I loved the name so much I jacked it for this giveaway!). This beautiful basket of goodies includes:
- 6 Royal Riviera® Pears
- 3 Apples
- Truffles (4 oz.)
- Mixed Nuts (4 oz.)
- Milk Chocolate Moose Munch® Snack (10 oz.)
- Three-Seed Crackers (4 oz.)
- Sharp White Cheddar Cheese (5 oz.)
- Havarti Cheese (6 oz.)
- Honey Hot Mustard (3.25 oz.)
- Pepper and Onion Relish (10 oz.)
- Black Pepper Dry Salami (8 oz.)
- Keepsake Towel
- Martha Stewart’s Pies & Tarts cookbook
With this basket, you’ll be all ready to kick off this season of entertaining!
This Split Decision Pie Pan from The Spoon Sisters was invented for indecisive people like me. Double Butterscotch Apple Pie or Banana Cream Pie with Chocolate Ganache? Bacon, Leek and Mushroom Quiche or Fig and Blue Cheese Tart? Why choose? Make both! This amazing pie pan includes two inserts so that you can bake either a full pie, or two halves. Also love the “lift & serve” feature which makes removing the finished goods…um, easy as pie.
It is no secret that I am a butternut squash fiend, so I was particularly excited when I discovered these roasted pumpkin and squash seed oils from Stony Brook WholeHeartedFoods. The seeds of more than 10 squash are used in producing one 187 mL bottle of oil. That is a whole lot of tasty squash essence in one bottle!
The oils are pressed from non-GMO squash seeds grown in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. The seeds are gently roasted and expeller pressed at low temperatures to preserve their delightfully nutty, toasty flavor and healthful properties. No preservatives or chemical additives are used in the pressing process; no other oils are added or blended in — each bottle is 100% pure varietal seed oil. I’ve been loving my Butternut Squash Seed Oil drizzled over butternut squash soup or polenta, and the Pumpkin Seed Oil is killer with roasted Brussels sprouts.
Elevate your holiday baking with the Everything Basic Baking Gift Set from Scharffen Berger. It includes all the makings of home-baked chocolaty goodness: 2 cans of cocoa powder, a box of roasted cacao nibs, 3 six-ounce chocolate bars (one each of the 62%, 70% and 82% bars), and a gift box.
The first bean to bar artisan chocolate maker, Scharffen Berger chocolate carefully sources the world’s finest cacao beans, taking your classic recipes to a whole new level of decadence. For all my bakers out there, check out the Elevate A Classic Dessert with Scharffen Berger Chocolate contest now through January 2, 2012 for a chance to win $10,000.
It’s hard for me to walk into Sur La Table without wanting just about everything. I’ve had my eye on these scalloped-edge baking dishes – they’d brighten up any holiday spread (and they’re on sale now!). I’m also loving these pretty shiny stackable serving stands – perfect for a dessert display.
Our new limited edition BLACK/ORANGE LMS t-shirt is hot off the press :). Featuring Helvetica and Spoon Man, this is guaranteed to be one of the softest Ts you’ll own (we use American Apparel, tri-blend track shirts). This shirt is a great conversation starter…although beware that some people may think you are being inappropriate.
