Anyone who has ever sunk their teeth into one of Harry & David’s Royal Riviera Pears knows how unbelievably sweet and juicy and luscious they are. I’m a fan. So, it was a no-brainer when Harry & David asked if I would be interested in partnering with them and talk about their Thank You Gifts.
I chose to review the Applegate Gift Basket Deluxe because it features not only my favorite pears, but also crisp apples, giant cashews, roasted almonds, trail mix, dried fruit, and granola. This mix of snacks walks the line between healthy and delicious – perfect for keeping those New Year’s resolutions going strong.
I’m also a sucker for pretty packaging and couldn’t resist the adorable canvas-lined basket this gift came in.
The story behind the Applegate is a sweet one. When brothers Harry and David Rosenberg first moved to Medford to grow pears, the Applegate Valley wasn’t too far and quickly became one of their favorite places to explore. They’d always pack a picnic full of fruit and trail snacks when they went on their adventures to Applegate, and this gift basket was created in that spirit.
As I noshed my way through my basket of goodies, I landed on the Double Nut Granola. One handful turned into two and three. I couldn’t get enough of those crunchy oats, toasted almonds, and pecans kissed with brown sugar. With this granola in one hand, and a blushing pear in the other, I knew what my next step would be: a Pear and Granola Crisp.
The pears are so sweet you don’t need any added sugar. Just sprinkle a touch of cinnamon for some warm spice, and top with that delicious granola. A few dots of butter on top tie it all together, and in no time, you have a warm pear crisp hot out of the oven, ready to be devoured.
Royal Riviera Pears bake up sweet and tender, and play the perfect counterpart to the crunchy almond and pecan granola topping in this crisp. Whip together this warm, cozy treat in no time. And, if you have some ice cream lying around...well that would be very good idea.
