Brown Reunion: Providence Eatfest, Part 2featured
Spoiler: Spats, Del’s Lemonade, Blue State Coffee, and Tortilla Flats.
If Part 1 was all about the eats, Part 2 is all about the drinks…so this should really be titled Providence Drinkfest.
Yeahhh collllllege!
After priming my liver at Andreas, we hit up the new-to-me watering hole Spats. Apparently after our beloved Max’s shut down (joining the bars of legends past such as O’s), Spats became the new party spot. Must have something to do with the gigundo beer tubes.
With thirst adequately quenched for the time being, we went to go play in the newly renovated bookstore.
Upon leaving, I spied a Rhode Island classic parked across the street – a Del’s Lemonade cart. Del’s is New England refreshment in a cup. Like a slushy lemon italian ice with little pieces of lemon rind thrown in.
Fun fact: it also makes a killer mixer if you happen to have a little vodka nip with you…instant frozen drink picnic!
The main event of the evening was, of course, Campus Dance, where all classes, young and old, come together to celebrate friendships, accomplishments, and excitement for all the good things to come in life.
… but first we had to pregame in the dorms…
And take lots of pictures (high fashion, no smiles).
After a night of Campus Dancing, I needed me some cofffeeee. Good thing I stumbled upon Blue State Coffee a new, spacious, coffee spot caddy corner from CVS (and an old familiar face behind the counter — Hi Alex!).
Loved the organic-fair trade-green-progressive (aka Brown) vibe to this place. The company donates 5% of sales to local and national causes so you can feel good when you’re sipping your *delicious* mocha and heavenly baked goods from Seven Stars Bakery (now you don’t have to go all the way down Hope St. for your sticky buns! Hoooray!!)
After breakfast, snuck in a few games of whiffle ball on the OMAC roof, and then capped off the afternoon at the best spot in town for margarita pitchers – Tortilla Flats (the crime scene of some great Cinco de Mayos back in the day).
If Brown or Providence mean nothing to you—you’re dead to me. J/k j/k—thank you for humoring my trip down memory lane.
If it does, then you know…Ever True.
