Socola Chocolatier: Aphrodite’s Delight, Valentine’s Day Collection

I hereby declare February as Lick My Spoon’s official Chocolate Month. Yayyy!!!!

What does this mean for you? Chocolate. Lots of chocolate. I have had the good fortune to have sampled many a bon bon in my life…and in the name of love (chocolate love), I’d like to share some of my favorites with you :)

Throughout this entire month, Lick My Spoon will be hosting a series of Chocolate Giveaways! Because…you know…things can get kind of emotional around Valentine’s Day, and it’s always good to have some good emergency chocolate on hand.

So, without further ado…first up is Socola Chocolatier’s pretty-in-pink Aphrodite’s Delight collection.

You may remember this sweet n’ sassy, sister-owned-and-operated company from last year’s Valentine’s Day write up. It has been awesome to see Socola grow over the past year and gain some much–deserved praise in the choco-world.

Aphrodite’s Delight will be sure to, um, send the right message, to that special someone with it’s two featured flavors: Hot Lava and Burnt Baby Burnt.

Hot Lava

Hot Lava

Hot Lava is a two-layer confection with dark chocolate champagne ganache on the bottom and a raspberry pate de fuit on top that, yes, oozes like hot lava when you bite into it. It has love written all over it.

Burnt Baby Burnt

Burnt Baby Burnt

Burnt Baby Burnt is burlesque beauty of a truffle. The dark chocolate ganache here is coupled with a rich, burnt caramel flavor that is bold and sexy. The red Hawaiian sea salt crystals on top bring out the caramel notes and adds a nice little crunch as well.

To win this 12-piece box o’ love…

Simply leave a comment here telling me: Create your own fantasy Valentine’s Day box of chocolates – what flavors would be in it, or what would it look like?

Comments must be submitted by Monday 2/8, 5 pm PST. Winner will be announced on Tuesday 2/9.

Life is like a box of chocolates...

This is the first time I’ve came accross your blog. I love the pictures!! Funny, earlier today I got to try a couple of chocolates at a candy store in the mall. They were quite yummy, and inspired me to try making some “gormet-ish” truffles. I was daydreaming about the combinations I would make. I love variety, so I think my dream chocolates would each be a different flavor, and each a different shape and design. Some would be drizzled in dark chocolate, and some in white. Some would be rolled in walnuts, and some in chocolate sprinkles. A few may be coated with powdered sugar or cocoa powder. As for the filling, each would be intensely rich and creamy. A few would be caramel, and few with some type of peanut butter filling, and the rest would have different chocolate buttercream fillings. Oh, and I can’t foget cherry filling either! And apple! I love those.

  2. Jess says:

I would love a few chocolates with a mint creme center, a few with dark chocolate and sea salt, and a few with crystallized ginger!

  3. yael says:

I would love an assortment of chocolates with various fillings- mint, peanut butter, raspberry, orange ( i love chocolate and orange!) and nutella. Yum!

  4. Chocolate? All month long? I may not leave your web site:). I love chocolate with mint in it. Or cherries. Or toffee.

  5. What a great idea. For me the perfect box of chocolate would be one that reflected the tastes and cultures of the world. Have 5 splice powder in one chocolate, curry in another, …

  6. Tracy says:

Chocolate- my favorite food! As a child, I always picked the fruit creams. As an adult, I would love to take those fruit flavors to the next level: blood orange, mango, passion fruit, key lime, etc. I think these intense, tropical flavors would pair well with a not too sweet dark chocolate!

  7. Rachael Diamond says:

I like my chocolate to be adventurous, to never have to taste the same thing twice. I could see myself biting into a silky dark chocolate, layered with a spicy chili infused caramel.. or something with different textures. maybe toffee and pine nuts? surprise me!

  8. Shannon says:

Oooh, I would have to go with more of those pate de fruit combos – cherry would be amazing, or lemon… yum! :)

  9. Kristacular says:

Dark chocolate, caramels, mmm the hot lava sounds good too! I’m really easy to please when it comes to chocolate!

  10. CookEatLove says:

What a beautiful website. Have you ever made potato pizza? If not try it, it is the best. i would love to see your photos of it too!!!

  11. Jane says:

My choice would be a box of milk chocolates filled with hazelnut praline. See how boring I am? I really need some of this Socola… ;)

  12. Kelly says:

Dreaming of chocolate comes quite easily for me! My box would be filled with all dark chocolate- some with peanut butter, toffee, and plain dark chocolate with bittersweet chocolate. Yum Yum- wow what a giveaway!

  13. Ryan E says:

It would be a very simple, square box.  Wrapped in brown packing paper and a deep brown ribbon, inside would be 6 pieces.  3 rectangle pieces, caramel and chocolate.  Each caramel getting progressively darker.  3 other square pieces, layerings of cocoa butter, cocoa mass and milk powder in white, milk and dark chocolate proportions – some sort of deconstruction of the chocolate.  And in the middle of the box, some cocoa nibs, to remember where this all came from.

And some really sweet note to my wife on top.

  14. babyrocks. says:

love your site, i just discovered you recently from your buffalo turds recipe. =) i would probably want my box of chocolates to be made up of caramel and cocoa. the truffles would have cute swirly designs and purplish pink hearts on the top and would be squared with rounded corners.

  15. TallieAnn says:

Dark chocolate truffles containing a variety of nuts, peanut butter, and/or caramel would be heavenly!

  16. Pure dark chocolate. I find it really indulgent to put a piece in my mouth and just let it melt.

  17. Dskco says:

I love all Chocolate, haha. I’d probably stick with Peanut Butter/Chocolate for some, and others a Chocolate/Salty Pretzel combo. Simple, but those are some of my favorite flavors =)

  18. Alta says:

Definitely some raspberry-filled dark chocolate stuff, and some caramel-salty-chocolate thing. And plain, silky, dark chocolate. Mmm…

  19. What a fun giveaway! I would make a box and have the chocolates be filled with fruit fillings… strawberry, banana, orange, lemon etc!

  20. hua says:

I would make a box of chocolates filled with fruity flavors like jack fruit, lychee, dragon fruit, and asian pear.

  21. annalene says:

All dark chocolates… I love marzipan which is sort of rare to find in variety boxes, I also love lemon fillings (or anything else thats sour) and also minty fillings. Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  22. I would have a dark chocolate ganache with an apricot brandy cordial cherry in the middle! Yum!

  23. Chou says:

I love your photos for this post. They do the chocolates justice. My dream truffle would be combine the heat of chile with the chill of lime and the bitter of very very dark chocolate. Hooray for chocolate month!

  24. Rachelle says:

I love dark chocolate with a little fire first so perhaps a touch of red chili and I also just swoon for chocolate and pomegranate.
