The Chicken or the Egg?
In my house, the Chicken came first, Thursday night for dinner…but the Egg followed not long after for a delicious Saturday brunch! I am all about making my life as easy as possible, and it truly gives me great joy when I can create a satisfying “take 2†meal using leftovers: Balsamic Glazed Chicken served with Spinach Cheese Polenta & Eggs Sunny Side Up, over Spinach Cheese Polenta, drizzled with Balsamic Glaze.
Picnic in the Park: Saigon Style
A gorgeous, sunny, 78 degree Saturday…in November…in San Francisco. Time for a picnic in the park with some Lee's Sandwich!
Homemade Grrranola
Crunchy, nutty, sweet, slightly salty, and full of that baked goodness that you can only get with brown sugar and your oven. It’s better than the boxed stuff by far. You’ll shun store-bought granola forever after making your own.
Sushi Bistro: Rock n’ Roll Me
Sushi Bistro keep sushi fresh and fun with innovative combinations of ingredients (and dish names). Case in point, the orgasmic Rock n’ Roll: sweet scallops smothered in kewpie mayonnaise spiked with sriracha (Thai-style hot chili sauce), and served on top of a California roll.
Front Porch: Come. Stay. Pull Up a Chair and Join Me and My Bucket of Chicken
Front Porch accurately describes its fare as Caribbean comfort food: the signature Fried Chicken was cleverly presented in a fun, retro, popcorn bucket, complete with a handful of popcorn to snack on, sides of stewed coconut red beans studded with pork belly bits, and spicy rice dirtied up with bean remnants and chicken gizzards.
Newsflash: H&H Bagels Found in SF
Crossroads Caf੠clearly recognizes the superiority of East coast bageldom and has their bagels flown over from the source. Not to mention, inside is a cozy, artsy bookstore with plenty of room to sit; outside…is an urban oasis.
Party Time! Entertaining Low on Budget, High on Flavor
We successfully fed 25 guests on $250, cooking up an array of tasty hors d’oeuvres. I mean, who doesn’t love appies? They’re usually the best part of the meal anyway. Plus, they’re perfect for large parties. They’re unassuming, filling, and allow people to mill around and chat while noshing on bite-sized bits of delicious.
Dim Sum Love
From barbecue pork buns (cha siu baau) to shrimp dumplings (har gau) to pan fried dumplings with chives and shrimp (gau choi kau... a feast for cheap.
Girl Crush: Giada De Laurentiis
I love Giada. I love her simple yet sophisticated take on Italian food – authentic flavors, beautiful presentations, and dishes/ingredients described in wonderfully poetic terms. And happy to say, she was in town today promoting her new book, Giada’s Kitchen, at the massive flagship Williams-Sonoma in Union Square.
Chilly Weather = Prime Phà²-Slurping Weather
When the sky is grey and the chilly fog rolls in off the bay, there is one thing that is guaranteed to make me feel better: a big fat bowl of hot phಠsteaming in my face. After trolling Little Saigon in search of the perfect bowl of phಠtai, I am excited to report that Bodega Bistro has got just what I need.
