Presenting…Appetites: iPad App & Giveaway!
Thursday, February 24, 2011I have some very exciting news!!!! The kind of news that gets me wriggling in my chair! Some of my Facebook followers may have heard whisperings of this super secret project I’ve been working on. Well today is the day, my friends. Appetites, a new cooking app for iPad created by Clear-Media, has officially launched!
To give you a peek, here’s my promo video (Why didn’t anyone ever tell me I raise my eyebrows a lot when I talk? Hmm?):
Appetites features recipe demos from me, along with 5 other fantastic food bloggers: Matt Armendariz (MattBites), Gabi Moskowitz (BrokeAss Gourmet), Nick & Blake (The Paupered Chef), Adrianna and Caroline (A Cozy Kitchen), and Gaby Dalkin (What’s Gaby Cooking?).
Essentially, the app presents some of our favorite recipes, shown step-by-step, in high-quality video, from your point of view in the kitchen (you see what I see).
So, when I’m cutting up that pomegranate, you’re doing the same right there next to me. What’s cool is that the video segment showing each step will keep looping until you’ve completed it. No stopping to check the recipe, starting, and stopping again because you’ve forgotten what’s next (pshhh, that’s so 2010). Once you’re done with that step, just swipe to the next step.
It was so much fun filming these little cooking segments. I must admit, I felt like a stah. A flight down to LA, a kitchen set, food stylists, production crew, even a fabu makeup artist to make sure my hands looked supple on camera. I was a little nervous at first. What if I didn’t know what to say? What if I had an onion-cutting mishap? Did I really want the entire world scrutinizing my knife skills on high-def video? Eeek.
Thankfully, the crew was amazing. And I didn’t shed any blood. I am so very proud of this project…and I want to share it with you!
Today I’m giving away four Appetites apps!!! To win one of the apps, leave a comment below telling me: What recipe have you always wanted to see me make?
Giveaway deadline is Thursday 3/3, 11:59 pm PST. (Winner will be selected via a random number generator.)
If you can’t wait and need to see it now
you can purchase the app on iTunes. It costs $4.99 (which includes 7 recipes); each additional recipe is $.99. So, check it out! Tell all your friends and your momma’s friends!

I had to go back and watch the video a second time to see if you really do lift your eyebrows a lot, ya you are right you do. Personally I think that you just look expressive, in a good way. The app sounds very cool, congrats!
Hi Stephanie! What an awesome app idea – LOVE IT. I don’t have an iPad (YET), but I plan on getting the new iPad 2 when it comes out
So here’s my recipe idea for the promo: I’m a horrible baker and would love to see a simple step-by-step play of making delish chocolate chip cookies. Yes, really – chocolate chip cookies!
P.S. Sat in during your panel for the recent Foodbuzz conference in November. Thanks for all of the great insight and inspiration. I’m currently reading as many Ruth Reichl books as possible thanks to your suggestions. She’s an amazing writer… Did you know that she’ll be speaking at Stanford at the end of March? I know you love her and thought you’d be interested. Have a great day!
winner! hi, pauline
get ready to make use of that iPad2!! (and be sure to put a grease shield on it). Check out my Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe!
so glad you enjoyed the panel…and that you are loving Ms. Reichl’s inspiring work
i saw her speak at an event she did last year in SF, promoting her latest book (Not Becoming My Mother). Def go see her! she’s as lovely in person as she is in her writing.
I’m so excited! I will look into that grease shield suggestion as I plan on turning that iPad 2 into my new BFF
Can’t wait to see Ruth Reichl this month, too. Thanks for the inspiration and I look forward to trying more of your recipes.
Cheers,
P
This is great, Stephanie. All your recipes look good, but the pistachio lemon linguine hooked me right away. It has pasta, lemon and pistachios…three of my favorite things…so how could I go wrong? This seems like a simple dish
that tastes anything but. I’m gonna make this very soon.

I’ve been looking for a kick ass recipe for stir fried chili crab. I’ve been disappointed so many times in U.S restaurants’ versions after eating the most amazing chilli crab in Singapore. With our wonderful dungeness crab in season I would love to the able to replicate something close to what I like. then I would drizzle a little of my Santa fe smoked olive oil just before serving. I’m already salivating! Can you help me?
mmm love the Santa Fe smoked olive oil! maybe try this recipe from RasaMalaysia: http://rasamalaysia.com/chili-crab-recipe-crab-in-sour-and-spicy-sauce/
