Out The Door…Mehfeatured
Farshid was in town this past week, and was unfortunately feeling a little under the weather. His delicate SoCal constitution just couldn’t handle the SF chill. So what the doctor ordered was some hot, soothing pho.
He hadn’t been to the Ferry Building yet, and I’ve been wanting to try The Slanted Door, so we set out to take care of both matters at hand. Unfortunately, we missed lunch service by just a few minutes. Boo. Fortunately, the resto’s takeout stall, Out The Door, was open for business, and served the pho sicky was craving.
We got the Hanoi Beef Noodle Soup and the Sauteed Shrimp with Vermicelli.
The pho had a nice rich broth, and differed from the classic with its use of wide rice noodles rather than the traditional thin noodles.
The shrimp vermicelli was light and fresh, with plenty of meaty prawns, crunchy cucumber, pickled carrots, crushed peanuts, mint, and a sweet tangy side of fish sauce.
At about $10 each, it was a deal for the Ferry Building, but kind of a jip for Vietnamese food. For a real pho craving, Bodega Bistro is still my fave. However, all in all, a decent light lunch.
