Fortify Against a Sucky Monday: Homemade Gnocchi for Sunday Supper
Gnocchi for those Sunday blues due to the upcoming Monday, thanks to my trusty Joy of Cooking.
Roasted Eggplant Spread
Just chop up some eggplant, red peppers, onion, and garlic, roast them off, and puree in a food processor (or strong blender) with some tomato paste. Roasting takes some time (about 45 min.) but it is worth it with the intensified, caramelized flavors you get from the veggies.
Coffee Buzzzz
I love coffee. No, seriously. I really love it. There are few things as deeply satisfying as a rich, frothy, quality cup of coffee. I discovered my local Philz Coffee today in SoMa. When I took my first sip of the heavenly elixir I’ve come to think of as my liquid crack, it stopped me dead in my tracks.
Best Kept Brunch Secret in Soho
The Tasting Room offers a wholesome brunch menu, and will feed it to you before your stomach starts to eat itself from morning-after hangover hunger. The gentle prices will also take the sting off last night’s bar tab.
Oceana, Jump Ship
While dishes were great in theory, many fell a bit flat and I was still craving a juicy taste of the ocean when I finished. In truth, pastry chef Jansen Chan was the real hero with his inspired dessert. A wonderfully complementary and complex concoction that had me keep searching for more.
Classy, Comfortable French Fare (Sans Pretention)
A great date place, Raoul’s has the warmth of an old French salon with eclectic touches like the spiral staircase leading to gypsy tarot card readings upstairs and the deck of cards they use for the coat check.
Ravagh: A Taste of Persian Heaven
The sultani kebab is a bit of a legend among my red meat-loving friends. Well-marinated, juicy, tender, and flavorful – this is how unadulterated quality meat should taste. No fancy sauces, no frilly garnishes, your choice of meat is the star of the show, served with aromatic saffron basmati rice, a wedge of grilled onion and tomato.
