Is it normal that I bought 20 pounds of tomatoes on a whim?

I think being so wrapped up in this whole food blogosphere has altered my sense of normalcy.

No matter. I did it and I could not have been more excited as I picked up my loot from The Ladybug Truck parked outside Piccino hawking cases of juicy red tomatoes like a fresh shipment of LV fakes off Canal Street.

Roasted Beet Salad with Fried Summer Squash and Figsfeatured

I finally jumped on the CSA wagon and I must admit, it was kind of like Christmas when my first box arrived, full of the lingering summer’s bounty.

Fresh lavender perfumed the air as I unpacked each item with glee: heirloom tomatoes, okra, honeydew, beets, figs, flying saucer squash, and lemon cucumbers, among other loot.

Side note: this was the first time I encountered lemon cucumbers. They are pale yellow, the size of a small lemon, and quite adorable. They’re sweet, and delicate-flavored, and don’t have as many seeds as your average green cucumbers.

I rinsed off and bit into a plump, ripe, fig as the culinary inspiration started working its way through my thoughts. I was stoked to see a handful of the flying saucer squash that I have been admiring at the farmer’s market the past few weeks.

Tweety Park Partyfeatured

Hope you all had a happy Labor Day weekend full of BBQs, beer, and playtime.

We laid low and enjoyed the eerie calm of the deserted city.

…and happily joined in some Tweety Park Party fun, courtesy of Eddie (@hotfoodporn), Ryan (@chicharrones), Richie (@linecook), and Corey (@coreynead).

Needless to say, we ate well.

It was a potluck style gathering of hungry, thirsty, twitter-happy people, and there was no shortage of delicious, picnic eats.

A Taste of the Bay Area at Outside Landsfeatured

Festival-goers swarmed Golden Gate Park this weekend at San Francisco’s Outside Lands to soak in some world-class music, chow down on some local and diverse eats, and bask in the abnormally warm weather (discounting wintry Sunday).
