SF Street Food Fanatics Unitefeatured
Street food fanatics descended upon the Mission on Saturday for the San Francisco Street Food Festival 2009, a day-long block party presented by La Cocina.
With free admission and food/drink costing no more than $8, well over 5,000 eaters of all ages came out to celebrate SF’s vibrant street food community.
The sheer numbers that turned out was a tad overwhelming, but it was also heart-warming to see what good eaters we have here in SF. Lines snaked up and down the block, but surprisingly, the crowd seemed to be generally good-humored and calm (unlike the foaming-at-the-mouth angries at the Great American Food Fest a few months back).
Patience was handsomely rewarded, and street food, glorious street food, was consumed.

SF Street Food Scavenger Huntfeatured
There are some really special people here in SF. By special, I mean talented, creative, witty, fun, and…a touch raunchy.
The San Francisco Street Food Festival was held this past Saturday, and don’t worry, a full recap will come, but I wanted to give some much deserved credit to the Go Game and La Cocina for putting together the amazingly fun and well-orchestrated 3-week long Street Food Scavenger Hunt leading up to the festival.
The scavenger hunt had 224 teams roaming the city in search of delicious street eats, and generally assaulting San Francisco’s finest street vendors with their wit and creativity.
For your Monday procrastinating pleasure…a peak into the lives of SF’s street food fanatics:
Mission: Sad Cookie – Team Miso Horny told a joke to Guisell at Sabores del Sur that had her cookies not so sad anymore.

Pressure Cooker: Bay Area Premierefeatured
Pressure Cooker is a documentary that takes place at Philadelphia’s Frankford High School, where three seniors find an unlikely champion in the kitchen of Wilma Stephenson. Against the backdrop of the row homes of working-class Philadelphia, Stephenson has helped countless students reach the top culinary schools in the country. And under her fierce direction, the usual distractions of high school are swept aside as Erica, Tyree and Fatoumata prepare to achieve beyond what anyone else expects from them.
When I first read the storyline of this film, I immediately thought: Oh ok, Dangerous Minds meets Hell’s Kitchen.
As the film drew me in though, I quickly realized, real life cannot be summed up so in one pithy line.

Chow Down at Outside Landsfeatured
As featured in Bay Area Bites, August 19, 2009.
Food and Wine will be a big part of this year’s Outside Lands, San Francisco’s 3-day Music and Arts Festival to be held August 28-30, 2009 in Golden Gate Park.
After last year’s successful maiden voyage, this year’s Outside Lands promises to be even bigger and better with over 30 restaurants and 25 local wineries offering tasty sustenance as festival goers enjoy music from the likes of Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Tenacious D, Incubus, Black Eyed Peas, M.I.A., Ween, Modest Mouse, and Jason Mraz, among others.
The festival honors Bay Area culture, and as a city that loves our food, you can be sure that offerings will not be confined to your average festival fare. For those who attended last year, you’ll recognize some returning vendors such as: El Huarache Loco, bringing the flavors of the D.F. (Distrito Federal a.k.a. Mexico City) to the SF, Hog Island Oyster Company, shucking and grilling away, Maverick, serving their famous pulled pork sandwich, and Pacific Catch, getting fresh with their Hawaiian poke.
