Giveaway Winners x2…Yayyy Presents!featured

This week, we have two winners to announce! How exciting.

The winner of our pretty in pink Steamy Kitchen Giveaway is…Belinda!

And, the winner of our sinfully Sweet N Salty by Design Giveaway is…Joanne!

Thank you to everyone for your wonderfully entertaining comments 🙂 I loved hearing all of those sweet and salty closet addictions out there…and particularly enjoyed the creative use of potato chips – really? “The Potato Chip Cookie”?? Is this some food phenomenon (like the bacon explosion) I don’t know about? Someone please share.

Stay tuned for more holiday giveaways this month!

I love being an elf.

Friday Freebie: Sweet N Salty by Design Giveawayfeatured

On this wintry Friday, you may need a pick-me-up. Something a little sweet, a little salty, chocolatey, and covered in goodies. I know. Don’t you feel better already?

When I received this gorgeous box from Bianca at Sweet N Salty by Design I almost squealed with delight. Pretty and pink, and smothered in little candies and crunchies and sweet drizzle! I have a sugar high just thinking about it again.

Bianca shared that from an early age, she was surrounded by creative women who taught her that you eat with your eyes first. Their wisdom clearly rubbed off on her because her confections are almost too pretty to eat. Almost. Because you should eat them. Really. They are so good.

The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook: Firecracker Shrimp and a Really Cute Giveaway!featured

“A girl’s gotta eat!” quips Jaden Hair, self-taught cook, creator of the popular food blog Steamy Kitchen, and most recently, author of The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook.

This is the kind of sass and practicality that makes Jaden’s work so enjoyable and relatable. Her new book is dubbed, “101 Asian Recipes Simple Enough for Tonight’s Dinner” and features fast, simple, and delicious recipes passed down from her mom and inspired by her fellow food bloggers.

I first met Jaden at the BlogHer Food conference a few months ago, and was struck by her focus, drive, and of course, her sparkling personality. Judging from her expansive multi-media reach (Jaden is workin’ it – not only does she have a blog and book, she also writes a weekly column for the Tampa Tribune and has a syndicated show on Tampa Bay’s CBS10), it’s hard to believe that she’s only been at this whole food thing for 2 ½ years.

(Other than feeling a little bad about myself) I find inspiration in her hustle. It was a pleasure chatting with Jaden, and I found myself nodding and smiling as her enthusiasm flowed through the phone line.

Butternut Squash Risottofeatured

When I lived in Bologna, my Italian roommate Mariangela would make this heavenly Butternut Squash Risotto on special occasions. She would stand there by the stove, stirring away with her ancient looking wooden spoon (she claimed it imparted extra flavor) until a magical transformation took place and plain rice became creamy risotto. She would then finish it off with a generous drizzle of the liquid gold her mother would ship to her from their olive grove in Calabria.

This dish holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of long, hearty meals around a dining room table that gets cozier as the night progresses and louder as the wine flows. Which, come to think of it, is maybe why I think it’s the perfect Thanksgiving dish as well.
