If you know me, you know that I love my morning coffee. It’s a little luxury that just makes me happy…and keeps me from turning into a cranky zombie monster. Don’t deny me my coffee. It’s not pretty. I try to limit it to one a day, but sometimes that afternoon slump hits and the work is piled high, and it just has to be a two-cupper. That’s when iced coffee is my savior, especially during the summertime.

Kahlúa invited me to take part in their Summer Shake-Up campaign, inspiring fans of the classic rum and coffee liqueur to shake things up this season. We entertain a lot over here at Lick My Spoon HQ and I love to surprise guests with fun twists on classics. I’ve always reserved Kahlúa for warm winter holiday cocktails, but why pigeonhole this versatile liqueur? Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing some fun entertaining and cocktailing inspiration, using Kahlúa in unexpected ways.

First up in the cocktail arena is this Kahlúa-spiked Vietnamese iced coffee! Your new summer bestie.

This spin off of Kahlúa’s classic iced coffee drink is inspired by the Vietnamese Coffee I fell in love with years ago when I traveled to Vietnam. That super rich, dark roasted coffee. Those sweet, buttery lashes of sweetened condensed milk that made this drink more like a dessert. The Zen like patience required while waiting for the coffee to filter down into the glass, drip by slow drip.

Since Vietnamese coffee filters aren’t so easy to come by, I modified this recipe to use regular coffee, brewed extra strong. Let it cool, pour it over the sweetened condensed milk, add a shot of Kahlúa, and serve over ice!

Mix up a pitcher of this for your next brunch party, it’ll be a sure fire hit. Or, just save it for your party of one – because sometimes, you just need a little extra sumpthin’ sumpthin’ in your afternoon coffee.

Kahlúa Vietnamese Iced Coffee

Yield: 1 serving

Total Time: 10 minutes

Strong iced coffee with buttery, rich sweetened condensed milk and a shot of Kahlúa. Your new summer bestie.


  • 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup strong coffee, cooled
  • 1 oz Kahlúa
  • ice


  1. Pour sweetened condensed milk into a highball glass.
  2. Add cooled coffee and Kahlúa, and stir well to combine.
  3. Add ice and enjoy!
